Duties

Help
  • You will research, develop, evaluate effectiveness and technical adequacy of work items and proposals for resolving complicated and critical electronic problems.
  • You will research and develop technical specifications for electronic systems or component upgrades to meet new regulatory rules and regulations.
  • You will inspect ships for compliance with internal official policies and procedures for vessel Navigational, Radio Communication and general electronic equipment with emphasis on reliability and reparability.
  • You will examine shipboard navigation and communication facilities to ensure ships are capable of maintaining satisfactory communications.
  • You will evaluate data received from sea trials, test programs and/or contract specifications for the purpose of providing associated detailed analyses.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime and participate in training events scheduled outside of normal work hours.
  • The employee may be required to work aboard surface vessels while underway on trails runs and regular operations.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Shipyard and shipboard work is a requirement of the position where the incumbent may be required to do:
  • a considerable amount of walking, gaining access through small penetrations and climb ship structures (i.e. masts)., crawl and bend to accomplish shipboard inspections in a shipyard environment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience with devising methods and procedures for electronics system troubleshooting, maintenance, and/or repair. Experience with researching and/or developing technical specifications for electronic system or component upgrades to meet new regulatory rules and regulations. Experience with using life cycle support functions for corrective or preventive maintenance of electronic communication systems. Experience with executing installation, maintenance, and/or sustainment activities for new and existing command and control, communications, and navigation systems in support of agency missions. Experience with inspecting and/or evaluating shipboard communication systems to assess reliability, operation, readiness, and safety.
