Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience (for positions at the GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is an experience that requires the application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
For GS-3:
6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled OR
1 year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields OR
I have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-03 grade level.
For GS-4:
At least 6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement OR
Completed 2 years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level.
For GS-5:
1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS 04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement OR
Completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
General Experience
(1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-03: Six months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled, or 1 year of education above high school that included study in medical, health, or related field, or have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-03 grade level.
GS-04: Record patients' medical history and vitals, preparing treatment rooms, and interview patients to obtain medical information.
GS-05: Take and record vital signs, schedule appointments, operate specialized medical equipment, adhere to clinic and departmental safety regulations, and enter patient data into electronic health records.

Time In Grade

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
