Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild integrated electronic systems, where the output of several sensor subsystems is integrated into a logic subsystem and the resultant used to modify the operation of the total system.

Duties

Help

  • Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates integrated electronics systems, complex systems of electronic sensors, digital scales.
  • Sets up and operates software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems.
  • Uses and maintains hand and power tools, precision measurement tools, and test equipment.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintains inspections and maintenance records.

  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are:
  • Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers
  • The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required
  • This position is emergency essential (E-E)
  • The incumbent must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required, as a condition of employment, to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases
  • During a crisis, the incumbent or designated alternate must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority. The same will be required to take part in readiness exercises
  • This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively
  • This meets the criteria of an E-E position and requires that the incumbent or designated alternate to be removed from any military recall status

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600, Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-2610 ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices; knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices; knowledge of Boolean algebra to construct truth tables and logic equations for analysis of logic circuits; and
knowledge of related electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions.
4. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and microsoldering units.
5. Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems; to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be change or adjusted to compensate; and to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems for Mechanical Material Handling Systems.
6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions.

Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required.

Working Conditions:

Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed at missile sites, or in aircraft, sometimes outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
