Summary

The incumbent is responsible for the Physical Plant operation and the Central Control Panel. The employees of this shop provide 24-hour service, must rotate shifts work independently and are often called on to work extra shifts during severe weather. Individual responds to all needs of the entire complex which consists of approximately 2,500 employees. The shop work consists of the operation, installation, preventive maintenance and repair of all
environmental conditioning (HVAC&R) systems.

Major Duties:

  • Directs and supervises 24/7 HVAC&R plant operations, maintenance, and repair activities for a large medical center.
  • Work includes air handling equipment, exhaust systems, cooling towers, pumping systems, chillers, humidification/steam systems, heat exchangers, water systems, and refrigeration.
  • Directs, plans, and schedules routine preventive maintenance, repair, and upgrade work throughout the facility.
  • Serves as after-hours point of contact for all engineering-related concerns.
  • Supplies HVAC, steam for heating, sterilizers, hot water generation and cooking throughout Medical Center.
  • Responsible for life support systems, medication refrigeration, patient isolation rooms, and surgery spaces, which have strict Joint Commission and VA requirements for environmental conditioning.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients, employees and visitors.

  • Follows through to assure that work is progressing as planned, quality standards are being maintained for compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Promoting safety within the areas of his/her responsibility including oversight of educational requirements, adherence to established Medical Center policies related to safety and industrial hygiene and investigation of all accidents and reported safety violations.
  • Ensures all alarm systems (fire, water temperature, medical gas, etc.) are monitored, recorded, maintained, and upgraded as required. Reports all alarm conditions to senior leadership with recommendations for resolution.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a federal employee.
