Summary

The Laundry Worker Leader serves as the Working Leader for the Linen Distribution/Uniform Issue Department within the Enviornmental Management Service (EMS) section of the DVAMC and its satillite facilities within the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS). Comprised of 4 WG-2 linen distribution workers assigned to the linen room, the incumbent is responsible for the overall direction of the Linen Distribution/Uniform Issue area.

Help

The Laundry Worker Leader will perform supervisory duties in Laundry Worker Supervisor's absence. Additional duties include but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Establish daily priorities and deadlines for Linen Room workers in accordance with guidelines, plans, and priorities established by the Linen Distribution Supervisor.
  • Check quality and quantity of linen being delivered on a daily basis.
  • Request new linens to be placed in service when shortage is apparent.
  • Operates an industrial sewing machine.
  • Operates a button and snap attachment device.
  • Operates a hot patch machine.
  • Button replacement, hemming of pants, pocket repairs, and VA patch applique.
  • Provide ordering information for supplies, uniforms such as thread, buttons, zippers etc.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Operate machine safely and produce quality repairs.
Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 0500-1330 (5:00am-1:30pm)

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to frequently maneuver heavy carts, stand for long periods of time, Bend stoop, and heavy lifting stand/walk continuously on cement surfaces.

Working Conditions: Work is normally accomplished indoors where lighting is good. Working conditions can change with the season, it can be extremely warm or cool. In a loading dock environment, incumbent may be exposed to the elements. Incumbent is subject to muscle strain because of bending stooping, pulling and pushing.

Within 30 days prior to the end of each employee's probationary or trial period, the management official designated to certify whether to retain or terminate the employee shall determine whether to finalize the employee's appointment to the Federal service, or whether to terminate their service. Before the employee is terminated, they shall be notified in writing of the effective date of the action.
