  • Proficient in conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.
  • Completes and/or reviews engineering designs to include planning and conducting engineering studies, creating/modeling engineering designs, developing/drafting design criteria.
  • Applies principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and managing projects and resources, including technical performance.

Qualifications

For GS 7:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Performed trainee level engineering analyses associated with civil engineering assignments to include technical planning activities and data collection; participated in developmental tasks associated with facility examinations, reviews, and/or inspections; performed and interpreted calculations, analyses, and computations involving well-understood mechanisms. -OR-

Education: Earned 1 academic year of graduate education in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position. -OR-

Completed a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).-OR-

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

For GS 9:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Professional engineering experience which shows professional knowledge of engineering, professional ability to apply knowledge to engineering problems, and continuing to develop that knowledge and ability. Under direct supervision: Applied knowledge, concepts, principles, and theories of civil engineering to solve routine engineering problems; Used commonly-available software for word processing and data entry and analysis; Created technical drawings and design using industry-standard computer aid drafting software; Performed routine field inspections or testing of construction projects.-OR-

Education: earned a Master's degree or 2 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) -OR-

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Education

Basic Requirement for the GS-0810 series:

A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR

B. Combination of education and experience including - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. AND I have one of the following: (1) a current professional engineer registration; (2) passed the Engineer-in Training (EIT) exam or similar examination; (3) completed 60 semester hours of coursework specified above; (4) completed bachelor's degree in a related field AND have 1 year or more of professional engineering experience. If using education to qualify, you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.

Project Management- Applies principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and managing projects and resources, including technical performance. Drafts and/or monitors project plans that outline the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned projects. This includes collaboration and communication; participating on teams; and identifying issues prior to adverse impacts to the schedule and budget.
