This position is located at Elliott Elementary School which is part of the MCAS Beaufort (Laurel Bay) Schools Community. Elliott ES serves students in PK to grade 2. Beaufort, South Carolina, is known for its beautiful attractions, such as the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Duties

Help
  • Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students.
  • Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students.
  • Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.
  • Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding.
  • Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations.
  • Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students.
  • Supervises student meal and play times.

  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Sign Language Interpreter Certification is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing American Sign Language to translate conversations between deaf/hearing impaired and hearing individuals; and translates routine conversations for the purpose of relaying education materials.

The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
