Duties

Help
  • You will use computational physics methods to support the design and analysis of hypersonic weapon systems.
  • You will develop complex structural finite element analysis (FEA) models using state-of-the-art analysis tools.
  • You will develop robust and numerically stable FEA meshes.
  • You will execute analyses using local and DoD high-performance computing systems.
  • You will evaluate component structural margins and system failure modes.
  • You will conduct trade studies of  of various design and material concepts.
  • You will develop new design solutions.
  • You will investigate and implement innovative modeling techniques and software.
  • You will engage with national teams supporting the development of new weapon concepts.
  • You will have opportunities to support ground and flight test events, lead analysis projects, and conduct independent research.
  • You will provide computational modeling subject matter expertise.
  • You will generate briefing materials, documentation, reports to inform programmatic and design decisions.
  • You will present results for internal technical review and to external sponsors and stakeholders.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-03 (GS 09/11 equivalency), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional Engineer or Scientist applying computational physics modeling and simulation techniques to support the structural design, evaluation, and/or testing of aerodynamic systems.
