Summary

As a working leader, the incumbent of this position will lead 10 or more Housekeeping Aids, WG-3566- 02 in general housekeeping, specialized housekeeping, linen distribution and linen management, waste management, pest management, and Bed Management System (BMS) duties. He/she will work under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor. When not leading, the incumbent will perform general housekeeping duties within Environmental Management Service line.

Duties

Help

Leads a wide variety of project assignments with a high degree of independence requiring only minimal supervision. Projects may involve other employees or be performed independently. Initiates tasks or projects at a pace which will ensure completion within required time
frames by motivating staff and maintaining an even flow of work activity, assuring that each employee assigned will be productive in accomplishing tasks. Assures that employees practice established aseptic and safety techniques and those employees operate equipment and use chemicals according to standard safety practices.

Ensures that employees maintain proper working techniques and standards. Be aware of standards, policy or methods in obtaining work-related information from the supervisor, written guidelines, or industry sources. Have the knowledge of and be able to perform all the duties associated within the Environmental Care and linen distribution service including high risk specialized areas such as operating room suites, sterile processing service, pharmacy dean room, etc. Be able to interpret directions from manufactured products, follow instructions and carry out the mission of the Service.

Inspect employee's work by performing quality assurance checks of linen distribution operations, EMS and BMS operations, and environmental care services and give technical advice on unusual situations. Understands and analyzes staffing practices to maximize potential for efficiency and quality and advises the supervisor on the progress of planned goals and reports reasons for delays and recommends solutions.

Provide equipment and supplies to accomplish tasks. Ensures that all equipment is cleaned at the end of the shift and that equipment and supplies are returned to storage. Ensures that all established environmental care, infection control, uniform distribution, sanitation, bed management, infection control, waste management, and pest management operation guidelines are followed.

Ensures that all linen items are distributed to all delivery locations and quantity of linen distributed is in compliance with daily par levels; and that soil linen is collected per schedules as well as coordinates linen pick-up and delivery with processing facility and customers. Provides training to
housekeeping aids and others as requested. Training may require development of material for presentation. Incumbent performs Housekeeping Aid Duties, when not leading.

Qualifications

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical demands of the position will be that normally required of a housekeeping aid. Some heavy lifting (equipment and materials), movement of furniture required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting, arduous physical effort is required in the pe1formance of manual tasks described; such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time when providing training to employees etc. Visual acuity to distinguish between colors, identify dust and other deficiencies is required.
Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in the various buildings. When occasionally performing cleaning tasks, moderate effort is expended. Must have thorough knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation techniques, materials and equipment in order to instruct employees.
