Duties

Help

You will serve as a/an Equipment Specialist Marine and be responsible for functioning as the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative performing work involved in collecting, analyzing, interpreting and developing specialized information about propulsion machinery systems, and providing such information through advisory services to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair or dispose of equipment.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Resolving difficult recurring procurement problems regarding propulsion machinery equipment

Supporting recommendations with detailed estimates.

Identifying problems and/or trends existing regarding the acquisition of various parts and equipment.

Preparing statements of work justifications for other than full and open competition, product specifications, and other technical documentation related to procurement actions.

Assists propulsion machinery engineers in administering contracts.

Applies through knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in the design, procurement, maintenance, modification, and repair of assigned classes of equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

The incumbent will be required to complete Specialized Training within 1 - 2 years that includes:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
