Duties

Help
  • Patrols highly sensitive and restricted areas (by vehicle or foot) to ensure highly sensitive, restricted, and classified information and equipment is secured, such as documentation or units for SIPR access.
  • Serves as first responders and security to intrusion and duress alarms for classified and unclassified areas IAW emergency alarm procedures.
  • Ensures the physical security of the buildings and property, as well as the protection and safety of personnel in the HQ U.S. Army Forces Command AOR.
  • Coordinates with emergency services (i.e., fire and rescue) and other agencies (i.e., Center for Disease Control) as appropriate.
  • Provides protection to VIPs, to include General Officers, foreign dignitaries, and high-ranking members of the Department of Defense.
  • May serve as an armed escort for visitors.
  • Controls access and egress of personnel (including numerous visitors not employed by the installation) and material entering and leaving restricted areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Emergency recall and must be able to work shifts, overtime and weekends, as required.
  • Must sign DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Critical under the Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Program) and pass drug testing.
  • Must undergo periodic drug testing on a random basis.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56, must pass the initial Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of the hiring date and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass an initial and periodic medical examination.
  • Must complete initial and annual cardio-pulmonary resuscitation recertification and first aid.
  • Must be able to obtain and remain certified for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) for position suitability.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle license.
  • Must wear the Security Guard uniform and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the duration of your employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes experience working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, trespass, maintaining order and/or protecting life; writing and reviewing incident reports; and responding to emergency situations and security breaches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower level/grade position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

  • This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)).
