Duties

Help

As a INFORMATION SECURITY SPECIALIST - Title 32, GS-0080-12, you will serve as the Wing Chief of Information Protection at Air National Guard installations. Administers the Information Protection (IP) Program to include protection from espionage, terrorism, and threats of unauthorized disclosure and/or compromise of information or material considered vital to wing and command mission interests, national defense or national security.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: E-5 through E-6

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Practical understanding, specialized skills, and fundamental knowledge of the following Series GS-0080 programs: security police; information security; sensitive compartmental information; special security requirements; force protection; anti-terrorism; information protection; security police training, unit deployment, and physical security. Work involves security policies, guiding principles, training requirements, and certifications. Some work in this occupation require expanded security clearances, an extensive knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and procedures governing a distinct set of operational duties and responsibilities for performing security functions and handling weapons.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-0080-12 position, you must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Candidate has knowledge of information protection and is able to coordinate with multiple agencies. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
