Duties

Help
  • You will, in a developmental capacity and as an advanced trainee, direct the non-nuclear Work Control and Weight Testing Program utilizing established procedures which include Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and tagouts.
  • You will assist in conducting test projects for non-nuclear ships systems.
  • You will perform test design, i.e., develop, plan and document the test project.
  • You will ascertain what tests are to be performed, required procedures and sequence, manpower needs, equipment/instrumentation needs, type of data to be acquired, quantity of items to be tested, inherent safety hazards, etc.
  • You will interpret, modify and apply existing procedures as necessary and adapt new procedures when necessary.
  • You will conduct and/or oversee testing, operate equipment or data gathering instrumentation to ensure tests are conducted and data recorded per the test plan.
  • You will maintain and/or repair test equipment, hoists, and material handling equipment, and data acquisition/reduction instrumentation.
  • You will resolve difficult procedural or recurring issues concerning testing and evaluation of systems.
  • You will attend meetings to discuss, clarify, exchange and reach agreement on project related issues.
  • You will represent the organization in order to coordinate work efforts, resolve test problems, and demonstrate the use of specialized equipment for ship systems.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing test engineering & work control or weight handling testing to ensure the effective operation of a shipyard work control and weight handling testing program.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing work control, tag-out and weight handling testing for surface ships to ensure the effective operation of a shipyard work control and weight handling testing program.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-09 Grade level
Successful completion of at least two full academic years of post-secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
A combination of experience and graduate level education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
