Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Security Officer, Physical Security Division. The incumbent will serve as a Security Assistant providing the full range of administrative, clerical, and technical support to the Division. Incumbent will assists Physical Security Specialists in executing security regulations, policies, and procedures; issuing employee, contractor, visitor badges, and Personal Identification Verification (PIV) credentials for civilian and contractor personnel.

Duties

Help

As a Security Assistant, GS-0086-7/8, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Maintains knowledge of security regulations, policies, procedures, methods and objectives of security programs.
  • Serves as primary issuer of employee, contractor, temporary visitor, proximity badges/passes, credentials, and Personal Identification Verification (PIV) for EOP civilian and contractor personnel.
  • Collects biometric data to facilitate issuance of PIV cards.
  • Administers and monitors the performance of installation access processes to include: criminal background checks, biometric data collections, personal identification verification credentials, and visitor control systems.
  • Performs physical security inspections; assists with minor corrective actions; and coordinate follow-up reports of physical security inspections and surveys.
  • Serves as assistant to Security Manager; assists with managing automated and manual facilities access to include key and identification badge control.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

You may qualify at the GS-7 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates the ability to provide administrative and clerical support in direct assistance to security program operations. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: performing a variety of procedural, operational, and recordkeeping tasks related to security functions such as processing security forms; maintaining case files or databases; scheduling and preparing routine security briefings; assisting in the issuance and collection of security badges and temporary access credentials; and/or responding to routine employee inquiries related to security clearance status, badge renewals, or office entry protocols.


You may qualify at the GS-8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates the ability to provide administrative and clerical support in direct assistance to security program operations. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: managing/tracking access credentials and badges with access level configurations using access control systems; conducting physical security reviews and preparing follow-up reports of inspections and surveys; training new staff on security procedures such as badge handling, escort responsibilities, and visitor management protocols; and/or coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to support physical security activities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
