Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a ELECTRIC POWER CONTROLLER in the POWER PLANT (N4) DEPARTMENT of the NAVAL COMPUTER AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS AREA MASTER STATION ATLANTIC DETACHMENT (NAVCOMTELSTA) located in CUTLER, ME.
  • You will inspect, start, make operating adjustments, and secure diesel engines and related auxiliaries such as oil fired boilers, residual fuel transfer systems, electrical distribution systems, lube oil purifiers, and high pressure air systems.
  • You will take readings and monitor all engine gauges and meters for proper performance, compare with required performance, and make necessary adjustments.
  • You will analyze operation of equipment to determine if equipment is in satisfactory operating condition and make substitution of equipment as required, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • You will supervise the Industrial Equipment Repairer assigned to the same shift.

  • Experience applying a basic knowledge of or experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel electric generating equipment, electric distribution systems, oil-fired generating equipment, residual fuel storage, transmission, and treatment, and miscellaneous auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience using all types of hand tools required for making mechanical adjustments to equipment.
  • Experience interpreting working drawings from sketches to blueprints for a complex diesel electric power generating plant.
  • Experience detecting faulty operation of all power plant equipment, and taking corrective action to prevent hazards to the operational ability of the facility.
  • Experience coordinating the work of other employees, and possessing a working knowledge of a complex power generating plant.

Additional information

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

The position often requires irregular hours.

The incumbent must be able to work both indoors and outside for long periods under emergency conditions and to climb and work in crowded spaces.

The incumbent will be exposed to the hazards attendant to a radio station operating on a very-high­ powered, very-low-frequency transmitting facility and the hazards related to large diesel engines, electrical power generation, steam, and high pressure air systems.

The incumbent is subject to the high noise level associated with large diesel electric generating equipment. Outside working conditions will vary as normally expected for regions of northeastern Maine.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

Several vacancies may be filled.
