Duties

Help

Strives to execute the Library’s mission, while enhancing the visitor experience.

Public facing position assists customers in store and by phone, solves issues and/or complaints, adhering to both Library and Retail Store policies and procedures while delivering stellar customer service. Determines and meets customer’s needs to achieve store sales goals.

Assists in all areas of two Retail Stores requiring attention as requested by supervisor. Determines replenishment for common, non-recurring items and new items. Keeps product lines, product types, and/or retail space in stock and monitors tum and inventory levels. Supports planograms and checklists, coordinating and maintaining appropriate levels of brands, signature products, and other bestselling items at all times.

Independently performs sale, return and discount transactions on cash register and Point of Sale system, utilizing all payment types. Processes transactions swiftly, practices tight and accurate cash control, in accord with established cash control procedures and customer service guidelines. Performs opening and closing cash drawer functions, with accountability of fund balancing. Notifies supervisor of currency needs and cash overages/shortages at close of business balancing.

Independently performs the full range of routine and repetitive cash processing tasks associated with opening and closing duties.

Assists in all areas of inventory operations, maintaining proper stock levels, processing merchandise for floor placement, creating visually appealing displays, and maintaining cleanliness standards.

Properly displays new products and frequently restocks merchandise. Determines quantities required and time for replenishment for common, non-recurring and new items based on experienced judgment and/or consultation with supervisor.

Participates in executing annual physical inventory, performs cycle counts to identify discrepancies, ensuring accurate inventory levels.

As assigned, covers outside-of store events in support of other Library divisions.

Performs various other related duties as assigned.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Ability to operate automated Cash Register Systems or Point of Sale Systems and related equipment to process merchandise purchases.**

Ability to provide customer service.**

Ability to interpret and apply a variety of guidelines and/or regulations.

Ability to perform inventory tasks and maintain accurate records.**

Ability to communicate and interact collaboratively with others.

Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
