Duties

Help

Prepares furniture or wooden articles for finishing or refinishing, including disassembling furniture for refinishing then reassembling furniture once the finishing process is complete. Sands, hand rubs, finishes, and inspects furniture. Creates custom mix stains using spray toners and dyes; applies glazes, lacquer sealers and lacquer topcoats; mixes ingredients to match the color of the finish. Prepares finished samples and step-boards for client approval. Stains and finishes complex cabinetry as well as historic; performs two-toned or multi-toned finishes. Completes on site touch-ups on items that cannot leave the Capitol. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Five to eight years in finishing and/or refinishing furniture.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of different wood types. 
  • Knowledge of special finishing processes and techniques.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires frequent physical effort standing, bending, stooping, arm movement and hand-eye coordination and precision.
  • Heavy (carrying of items more than 50 pounds).
  • Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (chemicals, fumes), noise, and dust.
  • Work requires employee to wear uniforms (or gloves or other protective equipment including a respirator).

Education

High school diploma (or GED).
