Duties

Help
  • Assists Human Resources Specialists with their assigned programs and functions.
  • Advises customers as to why program criteria is met or has not been met and provides input on general solutions/alternatives to routine and/or recurring problems or issues.
  • Identifies potential problems and corrects inaccuracies and noncompliance with appropriate guidelines, and coordinates with other individuals/offices to ensure appropriate data corrections are made.
  • Researches and interprets rules, regulations and procedural requirements to provide information and advice to managers regarding recruitment and placement or employee relations matters.
  • Reviews requests for personnel actions to ensure all required information is complete, adequate and in compliance with Agency and higher-level guidelines.
  • Performs a variety of technical and administrative support duties, such as preparing letters, agreements and other documents for new hires.
  • Reviews, codes, and inputs a variety of personnel and/or payroll-related data into the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS) and/or the Defense Civilian Pay System (DCPS).
  • Applies knowledge of civilian pay entitlements, rules, and requirements to monitor accuracy of the data and compliance with prescribed regulations and procedures

Qualifications

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp.

Proficiency Requirements: You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 or equivalent level. Specialized experience must be documented in your resume.Specialized experience include:providing basic support and assistance to HR personnel in areas such as recruitment, staffing, processing personnel actions, employee and labor relations; responding to customers and/or inquiries on various human resources related issues; and utilizing various automated systems to complete a wide variety of personnel and payroll actions and daily tasks.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: You may substitute one year of graduate level education which is directly related to the work of the position. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

Initial Probationary Period: You will be required to serve an initial probationary period of 1 year if one has not already been completed.

Drug Testing: If you are given access to classified information, you will be subject to random drug testing. If you are selected for a special sensitive position, you will be placed in a drug testing designated position. You must pass a drug test before your assignment to such a position and you will be subject to random drug testing subsequent to your assignment.

Background Investigation: All selectees will be subject to a personnel security investigation which must be favorably adjudicated for occupancy of a sensitive position and/or access to classified information. If you are selected for a critical/special sensitive position, you will be subject to a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI). For a critical sensitive position, you must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance eligibility at the Top Secret level. For a special sensitive position, you must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance eligibility at the Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level AND you will be subject to a random counterintelligence scope polygraph.

PCS: Relocation expenses reimbursed - Yes - You may qualify for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with agency policy. Relocation expenses will be offered based on agency staffing needs and budgetary availability.

Additional Vacancies: This announcement may be used to fill additional positions within 120 days of the certificate issuance date.
