Area 1: Open to current on-board federal technicians and employees of the Michigan National Guard.
Area 2: Open to current military members of the Michigan National Guard.
***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP***
This position is located in an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA) with responsibility for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, system, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
1. Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
2. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required.
3. May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
Install, adjust, align, troubleshoot and perform final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components such as airframe, landing gear, power plant, gear boxes, pumps, and hydraulic, pressurization, utility, fuel, oil, pneumatic, and flight control systems. Typical work assignments at this level include installing, aligning, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Work assignments may range from complete aircraft overhauls to routine maintenance and servicing aircraft. Grade 10 aircraft mechanics perform flight line maintenance of assigned and transient operational aircraft, including functional testing, troubleshooting, and repairing all airframe mechanical systems, or post assembly checkout, adjustment, and repair of overhauled and modified aircraft to prepare for and correct deficiencies found on functional check flights. Mechanics at this level check technical guides to assure they include up-to-date changes. They report errors and poorly presented or confusing information. In some work situations, they may be required to run up and taxi aircraft to conduct operational tests.

For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required.
Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS per statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.
