The organizational goals or objectives of this position are: To provide full-spectrum legal support to the Department of the Air Force, commanders, and personnel in matters such as contract, fiscal, labor and employment, environmental, tort, information, and international, administrative law, government ethics and legal assistance.

- Assists military and civilian attorneys in rendering legal advice and litigating matters which may involve government contracts, labor and employment, environmental law, torts, administrative law, legal assistance and other areas in support of Air and Space Force missions and personnel.

- With assistance from other attorneys, performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

1. Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Applicants currently attending law school with a projected graduation no later than June of the academic year of application may apply for this position, but may not be appointed until after law school graduation and meeting qualification requirements.

2. Admission to the bar is not a prerequisite for this position but is expected during the first year of employment. Appointment as a law clerk is limited to 14 months during which time the appointee must be admitted and show active (or equivalent) membership, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, after which the law clerk may be appointed to a position as an attorney.

May be required to file an Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and annually thereafter.

This is a Palace Acquire (PAQ) intern position, mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign a Department of the Air Force-wide mobility agreement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Knowledge of legal systems, principles, research and writing.
  2. Skill and ability to identify legal issues, cite applicable law, and determine if precedents are involved.
  3. Skill in writing legal opinions and memoranda.
  4. Skill in identifying and understanding issues, options and recommending courses of action.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, in and outside the legal profession, both orally and in writing, in both formal and informal settings.
  6. Ability to prepare cases for litigation, to include interviewing witnesses and collecting and organizing evidence.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
