Major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a variety of duties involved in the installation, modification, and repair of utilities, buildings, structures, and industrial equipment, from receipt of work order through the final operational check out or inspection. Responds to work orders regarding domestic heating equipment, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, laundry and kitchen commercial equipment, plumbing, and keys or locks.Electrical:

  • Performs installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, and outlet boxes. Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances.
  • Following maintenance schedules, inspections, or work orders, performs maintenance services, diagnose system or equipment malfunction an makes repairs as necessary.
  • Test circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, amp meter, wattmeter, meggers, ohmmeter, capacitor tests, and oscilloscope.
  • Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits, inserting, splicing, and connecting wires to fixtures, out lets, switches receptacles, and power sources.
  • Removes and replaces obsolete and worn out units and subassemblies.
  • Makes alterations to basic equipment as required and/or connects new equipment to existing facilities. Installs, tests, maintains, adjusts, and repairs electrical buzzer and bell systems.
Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment:
  • Installs, recognizes causes of faulty equipment, and makes uncomplicated repairs on a variety of small domestic and commercial heating, furnaces, refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, deep freezers, evaporative coolers, evaporative fans, and other equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specification.
Carpentry and Painting:
  • Constructs, alters, repairs, or modifies items and structures such as frame work, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, forms, and siding.
  • Plans and completes the work from initial layout to final assembly or installation.
  • Uses simple arithmetic and accepted carpentry trade methods and techniques.
  • Paints interior and exterior of buildings and facilities
Plumbing:
  • Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work such as that which involves removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken pipe and tile, clogged pipe and fixtures, and leaky faucets and drains.
  • Repairs sprinkler systems. Hooks up to installed systems such as water heaters, and/or storage tanks, circulating pumps, drinking fountains, laundry tubs, urinals, dishwasher, sump pumps, and water closets.
Welding:
  • Using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes, performs welding duties using electric and wire feed, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes to weld various types of medal in various sizes, shapes, and thickness, including dissimilar metals.
Motor Vehicle Operator:
  • Drives service vehicles with a GVW of 10,000 pounds.
  • Transports materials, and equipment through-out the installation and on public roads.
  • Loads/unloads vehicles, assuring hauling capacity is not exceeded.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: Work involves climbing ladders, poles, towers, or structures. Good hand and eye coordination are
required. Repairs are made on equipment which may require maneuvering and may require lifting of items up to 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Frequent bending, stooping, and stretching is required as well as working in hard-to-reach places and in awkward positions.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
