As an Operations Support Assistant your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provides administrative support and office services for the organizations activities involving supply and property management, mail and file services, travel, records and reports, equipment maintenance, vehicle management, and related services.
  • Establishes and maintains the office filing system and disposes of obsolete or superseded files.
  • Prepares a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and other documents.
  • Receives telephone calls and greet visitors.
  • Simplified Purchase Contracting Officer.
  • Performs budget execution and administrative work.
  • Directs day-to-day building management operations including initiation of work orders and service orders.
  • Prepares requests for Personnel Actions.
  • Maintain the Government Purchase Card.

A. Length of Tour: The initial tour of duty for this assignment is 2 years. Employees are limited to a maximum of 5 years of service in an overseas assignment. After the initial tour of duty has been completed, extensions may be granted in one-year increments up to the six-year maximum. Employees who wish to remain on an overseas assignment in excess of the six-year maximum must request a tour extension or renewal before the end of their current assignment. Employees who are approved to extend their overseas assignment beyond the six-year maximum will forfeit the right to return to an office of preference. They will be placed in an appropriate position at a DEA domestic office where a vacancy exists.

Qualifications

GS-07: Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Federal grade level performing such duties as providing administrative support to an office (i.e., served as the primary point of contact for an office, coordinating correspondence for compliance, responding to routine office questions, etc.).

GS-08: Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 Federal grade level performing such duties as maintaining files, utilizing and applying complex word processing, office automation, several types of software, substantive databases and systems (i.e., desktop publishing and graphic applications, to generate specific working documents and forms); preparing confidential administrative reports and correspondence, and providing authoritative guidance to an organization on administrative matters; providing human resources assistance, providing support to property management and purchase card holder.

PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: Applicant must be able to type 40 words per minute, with 3 or fewer errors.

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
