Duties

Help

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receiving bulk sets of linen from the finishing units.
  • Storing clean linen on storage racks.
  • Preparing orders for clean linen delivery to wards, clinics, and other using areas.
  • Cleaning and sorting delivery carts prior to packing for distribution.
  • Receiving all incoming telephone calls for linen orders from using areas.
  • Assisting in loading the clean delivery trucks.
  • Maintaining accurate records of linen deliveries.

Physical Requirements: : Laundry workers must stand or walk continuously on concrete floors. While they do not usually have to keep pace with machines, they need a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards. They frequently lift or move bundles weighing up to 25 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing 30 # is required. Must be able to adjust work pace to existing workload, which will vary from day to day. Must be able to maintain a good attendance record, possess emotional and mental stability, and work at a steady and efficient pace.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the laundry service building. Employee is subject to a high temperatures, high humidity, and noise from machinery. Workers are exposed to the possibility of bruises from carts or machinery. Risk of exposure to contagious disease when performing sorting of soiled laundry- workers wear protective masks, gloves and gowns. Potential exposure to sharp objects (ex. Sharps concealed in soiled laundry).

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
