Help

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Provides administrative authority, guidance, and advice to Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) and all other clinical staff concerning administrative matters necessary for operation of the medical center during other than normal tours.
  • Provides information to the MOD on legal matters pertaining to eligibility and entitlement, guidance regarding administrative processes and procedures as they relate to patient care.
  • Oversees Business Office personnel and activities during Weekend, Holiday, Evening and High (WHEN) hours, normallythis includes telephone operators file room staff and other clerical personnel that might be on duty.
  • Conducts Systematic Internal Reviews to determine whether or not various policies and procedures are being carried out in accordance with instructions and established program guidelines.
  • Determines eligibility and entitlement for care through the interview and application process when necessary.
  • Coordinate admissions to include maintaining accurate bed availability information, approve lodging for those who are eligible using sound judgment in special circumstances, coordinate transportation for those who are eligible and for those who require it.
  • Coordinates physician's efforts in notifying family members of a patient's death. They counsel the family as to any benefits available and assist in making funeral arrangements.
  • Serves as the facility telephone operator when the main switchboard is not in operation.
  • Responsible for investigating untoward events or incidents, such as injury or abuse to patients, elopement of patients, loss of funds or valuables, loss of government property and/or injury to visitors.
  • Administratively approves and coordinates tests and procedures which cannot be done at the medical center.
Work Schedule: Overnights, 12 hour shifts, 6:00 pm - 6:00 am with rotating weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily executed at a desk but does entail some walking, standing and bending. Production of a large volume of work and the ability to adjust quickly to constantly changing situations is required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Utilizing communication skills to serve as internal and/or external contact in support of a medical facility; maintaining medical records; receiving and routing telephone calls; gathering data to create reports; utilizing software programs to track patient data; analyzing and interpreting legal documents to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines; coordinating patient transports.

NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
