Help

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Installs and operates high- and low-pressure piping systems, plumbing systems, and related equipment (such as steam heating, steam generators, vacuum systems, radiators and circulating pumps).
  • Installs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, drinking fountains, hot water storage tanks, and hot water producing equipment such as dishwashers and laundry equipment.
  • Inspects, adjusts, cleans, and repairs, the following: air compressors, medical compressed air systems, vacuum systems, oxygen systems and natural gas distribution systems.
  • Works with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam.
  • Handles lifts, carries, and sets up plumbing parts and equipment.
  • Makes safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment in accordance with regulations and National Codes.
  • Interprets and applies building plans and blueprints to use shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs and circles.
  • Performs work assigned orally and through written or electronic work orders based on building plans and blueprints.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers' specifications for installing and repairing equipment.
  • Layout pipe, thread, rough-in and finish bathroom, rough in and finish kitchen.
  • Plans and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment.
  • Uses tools and equipment such as sliding squares, measuring tapes, dividers, chalk lines, etc.
  • Conducts welding repairs and fabrication requiring the use of oxygen, acetylene, arc welding, and pipe welding.
  • Uses ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places.
  • Uses hand tools common to the pipefitting trade, including wrenches, sliding squares, measuring tapes, dividers, chalk lines, plumb bobs and templates.
  • Figures pressures and fixtures units within a system and ensuring that piping, valves, fittings and equipment are proper for the work.
  • Tests system and equipment after completion of work.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment by using available resources such as cameras and other tools, to find the root cause of a problem or system failure, correct the failure and prevent future re-occurrences.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, schedule will be based on the facility needs.

Physical Requirements: The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. the employee works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard to reach places. The employee handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally items may weigh more than 50 pounds.
