Help

DUTIES:

  • Receives funds in the form of cash, checks, electronic funds transfers (EFT), etc.
  • Accepts purchase card payments from veterans and processes payments point of sale (POS) terminals.
  • Issues receipts for funds received, deposits funds in federal Reserve accounts, and processes transactions necessary to update accounting records such as those for accounts receivable, personal funds of patients accounts, chaplain funds, General Post Funds, etc.
  • Pays vouchers such as those for beneficiary travel, patient funds withdrawals, employee travel vouchers, and miscellaneous vouchers.
  • Prepares and processes agent cashier accountability reports and replenishment vouchers.
  • Agent cashiers are personally and financially responsible for funds in their care, custody, and control.
  • Balances funds advanced from the Treasury, plus those collected from debtors and depositors, on a daily basis with appropriate supporting documentation and provides it to the Supervisor for review.
  • Researches and reviews facts surrounding the receipt of funds from various sources for proper disposition and processing of accounting transactions.
  • Answers veteran's billing questions, and often collaborates with the Facility Revenue Office resolves them.
  • Agent cashiers account for funds received via electronic funds transfer (EFT) to replenish funds paid out per payment vouchers. Checks are written to provide cash funds for future payments.
  • Agent cashiers maintain inventory records or "accountable documents", including checks, general receipts, patient funds receipts, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level, GS-6, without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

GS-4: EXPERIENCE: one year of general experience. General experience is defined as: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
GS-4: EDUCATION: 2 years above high school (transcripts required)
OR
GS-4: COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

GS-5 EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 which involved providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Teller. Specialized experience includes: Experience with banking practices and currency. Experience collecting cash, checks, and/or credit card transactions and preparing receipts and deposits. Experience with security regulations and procedures to endure the safeguarding of cash and financial instruments.

GS-5 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of a full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

GS-5 COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
