Summary

The Charles George VA Medical Center is recruiting for Full-Time (WG-02); Food Service Worker in Nutrition and Food Service.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE OPEN CONTIUNALLY UNTIL ALL POSITIONS ARE FILLED. Which allows this office to accept applications/resumes as long as it is open. Duties

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing uncooked items following simple recipe instructions such as reconstituting fruit gelatin with water,
  • Preparing cold sandwiches and packing them with other ready to serve assembled foods for bag meals, and simple diet supplements and tube feedings.
  • Performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas, such as cleaning exhaust hoods, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment including moving the equipment, washing walls and windows, mopping floors, and cleaning walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
  • Pushing tray delivery carts to distribute and collect trays from the bedside and recording information about tray delivery, pick-up and non-delivery.
  • Performing a variety of tasks in the dish room such as scraping trays, sorting, stacking and racking.
  • Completing tray preparation with hot beverage and frozen desserts and verifying trays have been properly heated prior to delivery of trays to patients.
  • other related duties will be assigned as needed.

Work Schedule: Full Time (Tour will be determined by supervisor based on organizational needs) Shifts are variable / 7 days a week to include holidays. Schedule may change based on the needs of the services.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent performs work requiring light to moderate physical effort and is subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The incumbent performs heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in uploading, storing and delivering supplies. May be required to work on ladders and use power-cleaning equipment.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortable high temperatures, humidity and noise. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors from food or beverages and from floors recently mopped. Incumbent is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
