- Responsible and accountable for the provision of information, education, training, and technical support for all nursing and allied health related to electronic documentation and the coordination and direction of BCMA.
- Creates a culture of safety around BCMA. Works collaboratively to enhance the safety of patients receiving medications.
- He/she is responsible for the coordination of all patient care activities related to medication administration workstations/BCMA.
- Demonstrates strong interactive and collegial interactions essential to facilitating informatics initiatives; he/she works in collaboration with all disciplines and services affected by the BCMA computer software program.
- Functions as a resource and consultant for clinical issues related to BCMA to ensure patient care needs are provided in a safe and timely manner. Facilitate information dissemination to end users on policies and procedures relevant to BCMA and the medication management process.
- Serves as liaison between administration, clinical staff, and IT regarding BCMA / CAC and the medication management process; he/she collaboratively interacts with Information Technology (IT) personnel in order to provide expert nursing knowledge and information that will result in comprehensive patient care outcomes
- Actively participates in National/VISN BCMA / CAC conference calls and training initiatives.
- Functions as an internal consultant in evaluating program(s), resources, and services. Incorporates theories, principles, and concepts from appropriate sciences into informatics practice, informatic systems, implementation methods, workflow analysis, process redesign, project management.
- Provides leadership in developing/maintaining reports targeting clinical performance criteria. Initiates and maintains databases and reporting structures and works collaboratively with others to assess variances.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates computer applications for clinical services, administration, education, and patient care. Updates clinical data element templates as required.
- Initiates and/or supports a range of informatics/informatic solution(s)/ projects to improve organizational performance; monitors and effectiveness of outcomes
- Function as an effective member of the clinical informatics team, assisting in resolution of end user problems related to BCMA/ CPRS, interface tools, clinical application tools and services.
- Identifies and resolves impediments to clinical documentation where identified.
- Provides initial and ongoing CPRS training to staff and assesses their ongoing needs.
- Assist in the assessment of clinical application needs, facility wide.
- Assists with staff questions, programmatic need and effectively liaisons with other departments
- Evaluates the effectiveness of BCMA/ CAC training.
- Utilizes professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities
- Implements education plans to meet changing program or service needs
- Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues
- Collaborates with others/ other departments in activities to improve care Manages program resources (financial, human, material, or informational) to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care.
- Works collaboratively to improve outcomes at the program or service level
- Represents BCMA/ CAC on facility and nursing committees.
- Assists in revising menu options for users.
