The APRN position is located in Psychiatric Mental Health at the Newington location. The positions are full-time at 40 hours per week.
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic date gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgement, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems. Responsibilities include; but are not limited to:
Multi-disciplinary team membership and membership commitment to the VA nursing department;
Performing comprehensive initial psychiatric assessments and medication evaluations;
Facilitation of psychotherapy group(s), allowing for efficient treatment of veterans with common concerns;
Participation in psychopharmacological management of veterans who may require specialty management and intervention related to the specialty of mental health and/or PTSD;
Management of veteran patient assignments and the standard outpatient treatment referrals in VA and community;
Provision of evidence based and supportive psychotherapies (individual, couples, group) in treatment of individuals with a range of mental health diagnoses;
Collaboration with assigned attending physician per VA CT bylaws;
Incorporation of ANA Practice Standards, JCAHO standards, VHA and Medical Center policies and procedures into practice.

Basic Requirements:

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
