Summary

The Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic serves within the Facilities Management Service/Engineering Branch at the Orlando VA Medical Center with responsiblity to the WS-4701-10 Maintenance Supervisor. The Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of mechanical systems and equipment repair duties.

Duties

Help

Included, but not limited to:

  • Ensure that operation, maintenance and repair of all mechanical aspects of building and facilities will be maintained.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and inspect all varieties of equipment.
  • Install, maintain and repair all water, high pressure steam, medical gas and vacuum systems, non-medical sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment, water based fire protection systems, domestic water chlorinating systems, water softeners and gas systems.
  • Inspect piping, valves, medical gas systems, control fittings, and auxiliary equipment of steam plant, gas-fired equipment and steam, gas and water distribution systems for defects.
  • Disassemble and repair damaged sections or fabricates replacements from stock.
  • Maintain all facility sewer systems and storm drain systems.
  • Install, modify, and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
  • Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to lay out plan, placement and operation of various piping systems and equipment.
Work Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM or Sunday to Thursday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM or Monday to Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM

Physical Requirements: Selectee may frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around equipment and systems associated with facilities. Selectee must climb ladders, bend, crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Selectee must lift parts and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be physically fit as work involves lifting, pulling, climbing, crawling, working with hands over head, working in confined areas, and using arm and back muscles. Selectee must possess ability to be on feet for long periods either standing, walking, working off ladder, or staging materials, and lifting equipment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
