Duties

Help

Performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of day-to-day operation of the JB-MDL Fitness Center. Serves as desk attendant ensuring only authorized patrons use the facility and equipment and adhere to Fitness Center policy. Greets visitors, answers telephones, makes reservations for classes or use of equipment and facilities, and provides information on scheduled events and classes. Provides assistance and basic instruction to patrons in proper use of exercise machines and equipment. Issues sports equipment and completes required documentation for transactions. Inspects returned equipment noting damage. Inspects all equipment and facilities according to established standards and local fire and safety procedures. Reports damaged exercise/sports equipment to supervisor. Performs opening and closing procedures of facilities in accordance with written guidelines. Assists in advertising and recruiting participants for intramural teams, tournaments and special events. May be required to schedule and administer these activities in the capacity of a tournament director. Ensures activities are properly scheduled, facilities are set up and rules and regulations are observed. Assist patrons with interpretation of intramural sports rules. Prepares invoice for payment for instructional programs and sports officials. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • Must possess a current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and first aid certification, or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience which provides basic knowledge and understanding of fitness center operations. Must have a working knowledge of fitness machinery and equipment. Must have experience in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit or other processing of cash items when this includes direct handling of cash items, and use of cash accountability control methods. Must be able to read, speak and write English as well as communicate effectively with patrons. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
