Help

This position is located at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI and is based in the Rehab Services Division. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain clinic supplies, inventory and assemble durable medical equipment, provide patient care under the direct supervision of therapist, assist physical and occupational therapists with the provision of services, providing customer service to patients under the care of outpatient therapy program, supervising patient participation in unskilled exercise groups, maintaining department records, and other duties as assigned.

Duties:
- Maintains supplies for the clinic. Orders new supplies from logistics stock as needed.
- Collects patient data, including vital signs, blood glucose, and observation of overall condition to report to therapist.
- Supervises unskilled gym and aquatic patient exercise groups offered by department. Basic water rescue training provided and required for position.
- Documents patient participation in unskilled exercise groups in electronic health record.
- Assists with assembling durable medical equipment.
- Manages inventory for durable medical equipment to be issued to veterans.
- Assists Physical and Occupational Therapists with therapeutic interventions under the direct supervision of therapist.
-Organizes and sanitizes reusable medical equipment.
- Maintains cleaning and maintenance schedule of clinical equipment.- Assists with sorting files and data collection.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education As described below: You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

  • Specialized Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-4) in the Federal Service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health Technician. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Health Technician. Specialized Experience consists of but is not limited to: Experience in providing direct patient customer service and/or patient care activities; Ability to observe, perceive, use judgment, show initiative, and pay meticulous attention to detail; Practical knowledge of medical terminology; Knowledge and skill in basic computer skills and/or documentation in the computerized medical record. Ability to create and maintain logs and records related to activities, maintenance, and supplies.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

??????????????Combination: Must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education that includes courses directly related to the work of the position and specialized experience to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (i.e. 30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: The work is partially sedentary. Typically the employee sits comfortably to do the work. Part of the job assignment/ work requires the assistant to spend part of the tour on his/her feet with moderate amounts of walking, bending, pushing, pulling and occasional moderate to heavy lifting. The individual may be required to be on the hands and knees position to assist in mat activities with patients. Occasional moderate to heavy lifting may be required on a daily basis.
