Duties

Help

Serves as duty manager to ensure the facility is functioning in a smooth, safe and effective manner. This includes serving as point of contact to assigned subordinate staff, assuring tasks are in process/complete providing necessary supplies and resolving minor problems and complaints of the employees. May make recommendations to the supervisor in regards to work performance of assigned staff.

Upon arrival, the incumbent checks the work Schedule; taking note of on-call personnel for emergency needs. Ensures the facility is open and/closed at the posted time and in a state of cleanliness both inside and out. Reviews the schedule of events and ensures the facility is prepared prior to the scheduled start time.

Responsible for issuing, receiving and controlling cash receipts and change funds under custody. Upon end of shift or closing, rings out cash register. Assures the Daily Activity Report (DAR) is completed and certifies cash count of receipts and change funds turned in by individual cashiers. Determines cash shortages or overages by comparing total of cash receipts against cash register readings, completes the deposit form in accordance with local procedures. Ensures all keys are turned into the lock box and/or cashiers bag.

Circulates among the patrons to maintain order, warns patrons of disorderly behavior and attempts to resolve problems in tactful, diplomatic manner, May be required to tactfully remove disruptive patrons from the facility.

Upon closure of the facility, completes fire and safety checks, secures all doors, windows, storerooms, etc. Notifies the "trouble desk" of the Public Works Department (CWPD) of any emergencies that may occur. Prepares and submits daily report of night operations, to include both minor and serious incidents. This includes equipment breakdown or repairs, leaks, personnel/staffing problems related to work situations and any other information that may affect the operation of the facility and/or management decisions.

Assists the Recreation Specialist in the administration of programs and services of the assigned recreation, internet, and/of single sailor facility or program; to ensure it functions in a smooth, safe and effective manner, The facility may include the following: general or single sailor recreation area(s), movie room or theater, TV area, music video games and/or internet, billiards; ping pong tables, vending areas and/or food-and beverage, Liberty/Single Sailor program, and fitness area.

Greets patrons, answering questions by phone or in person, issuing games and equipment, preparing reports, collecting fees, and maintaining operations in accordance with rules/regulations of the recreation facility. Operates cash register, makes change and prepares the Daily Activity Report (DAR), turning in all money at the end of shift.

Registers and processes new computer center users on basic procedures and system operation to new customers. Diagnoses and logs minor common system hardware, software and user problems. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on direction from contractor and a basic knowledge of system operations. Refers major or complex hardware problems to contractor for diagnosis and correction.

Circulates among patrons to assure service is satisfactory to promote good patron relationships and to enhance the image of the facility. Provides information and general instructions concerning use of equipment and facility. Receives and resolves customer complaints, reporting any problem areas/issues beyond normal operating procedures to the supervisor.

Informs patrons of the nightly movies, television specials, upcoming Liberty programs and events, and other entertainment scheduled in the recreation facility. Shows and monitors movies as scheduled or as requested during open time frames.

Assists with program promotions, scheduling, set-up/breakdown and implementation of special events, trips and tours. Visits barracks, ships, workspaces and other populated areas to promote current events and activities. Assists local and distant day and overnight trips, completing required follow-up evaluation upon return.

Maintains basic security of the recreation facility, including enforcing tobacco and alcohol restrictions. Checks facility for security, via facility walk-throughs and monitoring security camera system. Reports fire or fire hazards to proper authorities. Maintains key control of all recreation facility keys.

Performs general housekeeping duties as necessary to ensure interior spaces are in a clean, neat and orderly state at all times. May make minor repairs to facilities and equipment. Reports any maintenance problems, material deficiencies and unsafe conditions or discrepancies that cannot be repaired in-house to the supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned. May be assigned to other facilities/program areas as needed to cover peak times, assist with special events, or cover staff shortages.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

A qualified candidate must possess:

  • Must be familiar with the general and specific uses of computer software programs as assigned (i.e., Internet, email, games, word processing. etc.), video projector systems and equipment related to a recreation facility to advise patrons in the proper use of equipment and facilities.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to perform inventory accountability, compute charges, make change accurately and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of basic English grammar for preparation of records and reports.
  • Must possess strong leadership and communication skills to effectively exercise control over a large group of people, market the program, motivate eligible patrons and lead a small staff with minimal direction.
  • A minimum of two years of work-related experience is strongly preferred.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement.
