Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2025. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 15 days after initial opening date with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st AND 15th of each month, referrals will be contingent on the availability of vacant positions). Duties

Help

Major duties are but not limited to:

  • Performs digital and computerized radiography both mobile and fixed independently assisting less experienced technologists on difficult exams.
  • Performs quality control of the images, assessing for proper exposure, positioning, and annotation, prior to sending exams to VistARad
  • Assists in clinical training.
  • Properly identifies patient images
  • Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients in terms the patient will comprehend as well as understand potential hazards that may occur as a result of the exam.
  • Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
  • Responsible for stocking inventory of all supplies and related materials. Notifies lead technologist of inventory levels.
  • All DRTs must be knowledgeable in computerized and digital radiography (CR/DR), and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS).
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, on call, some holidays and at the need of the service.
Travel Required: Requires travel to both uptown and downtown locations.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S Naturalized Citizen to be considered for this position. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Language Proficiency: You must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Education: You must have completed a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration or equivalent in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program.
  • Certification: You must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT)(R).
  • Specialized Experience GS-8 position: Have at least one year specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-7) independently provide services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services ensuring that the radiographic exams are within acceptable standards, with only occasional oversight or direction for highly complex issues, and performing safe radiation practices in order to reduce exposure to patient. All diagnostic radiologic technologists must be knowledgeable in Computerized Radiography (CR) and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).
In addition, must have demonstrated all of the following KSAs:1. Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines.2. Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed.3. Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results.4. Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed.5. Skill in using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers.6. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest.

Additional information

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
