Duties

Help

Services as the assistant to the supervisor in a large canteen operation. Assists in the supervision and training of subordinate workers, assists in selecting employees, explains work requirements, defines standards of quality and quantity, provides training, evaluates performance, and initiates award or disciplinary action as warranted. Assists in performing inventory, maintaining adequate stock levels, proper price marking, and ensuring security of stock, cash and fixed assets. Assists in reviewing cash register tapes, makes bank deposits and prepares required reports. Plans and provides for special set-ups of pastry, coffee or snacks. Performs a variety of cooking tasks and is responsible for preparing foods and serving visitors as needed.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Must be willing to provide proof of status as a U.S. citizen or Non-U.S. National. Must meet specified residency criteria.

Qualifying Experience:
Experience which demonstrates potential to perform supervisory duties. Experience which provided knowledge of food preparation and serving, and of requisition and inventory control. Demonstrates ability to recognize and resolve problems, communicate effectively and work well with others. Requires a Food Handlers Certificate. Must satisfactorily complete all required background checks.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
