Duties

Help
  • The incumbent will perform tasks such as, but not limited to the following cleans hospital rooms, office spaces, storerooms, corridors and other similar areas. Vacuums, damp mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors.
  • Operate motorized combination scrubber-vacuum machine.
  • Clean patient rooms and waiting areas.
  • Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
  • Dust, wax, and polish furniture.
  • Vacuum, damp mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) CUSTODIAL WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. I can operate common hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment. I can perform cleaning tasks, use brooms, mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners; operate lightweight floor scrubbers and buffers, load supply carts and ensure adequate cleaning materials and equipment are available to complete assign tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The work at the Grade 1 level involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; running lightweight powered scrubbers and buffers; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying wastebaskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with dirty laundry or wastepaper; and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to about (50 pounds).
  • Working Conditions: Custodial Workers usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Occasionally, the worker is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., and to serious injuries (e.g., broken bones) from falls from ladders and scaffolds.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
