Duties

Help
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation required to meet the standards for hospital accreditation.
  • Keep restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
  • Load supply carts and ensure that adequate cleaning materials and equipment are available to do the job.
  • Report to supervisor any broken windows, waters leaks, clogged drains, burned out light bulbs and other equipment requiring maintenance and repair.
  • Load rubbish and infectious wastes into carts, transports carts to areas outside the building and empties carts into commercial containers.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) CUSTODIAL WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common custodial, janitorial, and housekeeping activities within a large hospital setting. I am skilled in loading supply carts and ensuring that adequate cleaning materials and equipment are available to do the job. Cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The job requires physical effort such as that involved combination scrubber-vacuum machines, vacuum cleaners, lightweight buffers, dust mops and lightweight powered scrubbing machines. Continually standing, bending, climbing, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying the trash chute and pushing carts loaded with trash. Incumbent must be able lift and carry 45 pounds, pull equipment for 4 hours, push equipment for 4 hours, reach above shoulder height, use fingers, use both hands, walk for 8 hours, stand for 8 hours, work inside, work outside, kneel, bend repeatedly, work with both legs, work on slippery surfaces, work on uneven surfaces, work around heavy machines with moving parts, use eyes to determine shades, work with vibrating machinery, and work around water, and must be able to work alone or with a team of co-workers. Incumbent must be able to work in and around dust, chemicals, fumes, allergens and odors. Incumbents to meet the functional requirements identified on pre-employment medical examination. Near vision correctable to Jaeger Card #2 at 14" Distant vision correctable to 20/40 in one eye.
  • Working Conditions: The housekeeper works indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation, except when dumping trash. There is a chance of slips or falls on stripped or waxed floors. Cuts, bruises and exposure to infectious disease in cleaning isolation rooms are possible. Disposing of contaminated and infectious waste is required. Is exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning tasks described such as chapped hands or other irritation from working with cleaning agents, some of which are of strong chemical composition. Protective devices, such as safety glasses, gloves, etc, are issued and available for use as required by Standard Operating Procedures. Management reserves the right to rotate staff members from areas of responsibility to reach command goals and maintain adequate coverage throughout the facility.
