The Financial Management Specialist performs a wide variety of administrative, analytical and technical duties connected with the formulation, justification and execution of NMAAHC's budgets.
In this position, you will:
- Prepare budget estimates for senior staff and program directors for various budgets and budget calls from central administration. Assist said staff in developing budget estimates for Federal and Trust budgets for budget calls, internal use and for various monetary asks: gifts, grants and contracts.
- Perform budget formulation duties in the preparation of detailed analyses and estimates of annual funding needs as well as for future out year projections.
- For top management's review and approval, prepare summary analyses of the request for appropriated funds and recommend priority uses.
- Compile and coordinate presentation materials for assigned areas of budgets. Continually monitor control point expenditures in relation to planned levels. Prepare reports of analysis, making recommendations for remedial action.
- Enter budgetary data into a variety of forms, schedules and reports. Recommend and make adjustments when required.
- Review progress of all obligations and maintain sufficient familiarity with operating and financial programs to make early recommendations for reprogramming actions.
- Perform analyses of personnel and funding information for staffing and financial patterns to apply toward effective management of the NMAAHC.
- Provide analyses and advice to program officials, managers and resource administrators on financial matters associated with the management and control of resources or funds.
- Advise on and perform professional financial accounting duties. Develop accounting procedures and resolve technical problems in executing a computerized, integrated accounting system.
- Serve as Senior Procurement Officer responsible for approving orders of $10,000 and small purchasing authority in excess of $10,000.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: performing a wide variety of administrative, analytical, and technical duties connected with the formulation, justification, and execution of budgets; and providing guidance on purchasing and contracting regulations, policy, and procedures.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
