Duties

Help

As a Boat Builder and Repaier for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, you will serve along other support personnel and provide maintenance services on a variety of sailing and power-driven vessels ranging from 14 to 65 feet.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Maintaining fiberglass hulls and decks on a variety of sailboats and motorboats to include buffing, sanding, polishing, waxing and painting.
  • Repairing damage to fiberglass hulls and decks.
  • Preparing spars and rigging for use, tune and adjust rigs for racing.
  • Maintaining and repairing running and standing rigging to include lines, blocks and hardware.
  • Maintaining and repairing deck hardware including winches, cleats, stoppers, blocks, tracks and cars.
  • Installing equipment on boats.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly and Installation.
  • Knowledge of Materials- Use of Measuring Instruments
