Duties

Help

  • The incumbent vacuum cleans rugs and draperies; shampoos rungs and up holster; sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment, adjusting and changing buffers, brushes and other attachments as needed.
  • Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, dusts ledges and woodwork; empties cigarette disposal cans and waste baskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately.
  • The incumbent cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds.
  • May be required to move and set up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events.
  • The incumbent maintains restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition - cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels and soap.
  • Cleans mirrors and water fountains and performs light maintenance such as changing light bulbs.
  • The incumbent maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and advises supervisor when more are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement.
  • Polices outside buildings within ten (10) feet.

  • Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required.
  • This position involves work on workdays and may involve weekends, and holidays, as well as rotating shifts.
  • Physical exertion is involved in standing and walking for long periods, some bending, stooping and lifting is required.
  • Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighting up to 40 pounds is required.
  • May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
  • Must be able to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds and solutions and perform minor maintenance on this equipment.

Education

Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
