Summary

This position is a Transportation Coordinator at the facility level and acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the VTS Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Documenting and preparing monthly account synopsis for contracting officials in Acquisition & Material Management Service quarterly to justify yearly ambulance contractual compliance.
  • Arranging all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, ambulance, wheel chair, bus and/or independent transports. Corresponds with physician, traveler, and vendor to determine the most dependable and economical mode or transportation.
  • Planning and providing support services in the following types of VTS program areas: electronic records management; driver and scheduling setup.
  • Consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling.
  • Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS).
  • Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports.
  • Evaluate documents, e.g., sampling plans, permit applications and other data collection forms.
  • Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system.
  • Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as service project milestones, progress reports, program trends, performance measures, compliance strategies, etc.
  • Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) etc., and other transportation providers.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/20/2025.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing transportation support duties such as serving as primary contact to veterans for facility transportation needs and interacts with outside partners in order to maintain positive working relationships; communicating with and treating customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner; communicating and works effectively with a wide variety of medical staff; using complex patient databases to track eligibility, enrollment status, and demographic information; monitoring internal consultation process to monitor quality and mission success in providing seamless care and in educating staff on proper use of electronic record and internal consult processes; and plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how work will be accomplished for transportation program.

  • Education GS-05: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (transcript copy required).
OR,
  • Combination GS-05: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level (transcript copy required).
