Duties

Help
  • Carryout the full range of security guard duties at the Chemical Defense Training Facility (CDTF), a designated Chemical Surety Site, in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), Army, and local policy.
  • Serve as a guard on rotating shifts (24/7/365) for both fixed and mobile patrol posts within the restricted area, applying maximum security measures for the protection of government property, material, equipment, and personnel.
  • Prevent unauthorized entry into restricted areas by mastering the utilization of multiple overlapping procedural, assessment and physical security protection systems.
  • Operate and monitor a range of physical security and assessment systems, including but not limited to intrusion detection, metal detectors and camera systems.
  • Issue, receive, and/or maintain a key control system.
  • Utilize alarm and electronic monitoring systems operations( intrusion detection systems and closed- circuit television) and interpret signals and other outputs.
  • Maintain shift logs and record all event information either directly observed or reported via assessment systems, communication systems, site personnel, or installation personnel.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • As a precondition and continuing condition of employment, the incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis testing under the Drug Abuse Testing Program in Accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 600-85.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • Incumbent must submit to and pass a Physical Agility Test annually IAW 190-56.
  • Incumbent must pass a a pre- employment physical examination as well as an annual physical examination.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid local driver's license.
  • Incumbent may be required to work overtime.
  • Incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays in accordance with assigned schedule.
  • This position is covered by the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to work in a stressful situations.
  • Position requires clean shaven face to the extent there is no possible interference of any hair growth (beard, mustache) with the sealing of the protective facemask.
  • Incumbent will be required to wear chemical protective clothing, respirators.
  • Required to carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their specific jurisdictions and required to qualify with assigned weapons on an semi-annual basis, to demonstrate skill/ proficiency in their use.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to pepper spray.
  • This position is identified as a supporting Chemical Accident or Incident Response and Assistance (CAIRA) Operations.
  • Incumbent must have and maintain Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification.
  • Assumes essential personnel status during inclement weather/ emergencies.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • One-year probationary period is required.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Taking appropriate actions to remediate observed security and safety deficiencies; providing professional customer service to visitors, co-workers, and contractors; AND accounting for weapons, personal protective equipment, ammunition, and keys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
