Serves as the Backroom Manager and is responsible for the effective operation of the backroom. Leads the store backroom/replenishment team. Reports to the Operations Manager or Store Manager. Leads by example to: shape and sustain a working environment conducive to the successful performance of those entrusted to his/her leadership and direction; and creating a positive atmosphere and culture within Business Operations and its constituent branches that reflect the pride, professionalism, sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, collaborative engagement, well-being, and whole-hearted customer focus of its employees.
Works with the Operations Manager to ensure proper scheduling, staffing coverage and training of team members within the assigned backroom area. Responsible for meeting all established metrics to include receipt time, loss and/or theft, quality control and door to floor time, and the flow of merchandise and material to all branch activities. Ensures the proper and efficient function of all office machines, forklifts, motor vehicles and MCCS properties. Supervises and directs all phases of backroom inventories, prepares reports, and verifies accuracy of the same. Responsible for all administrative work essential to the operation. Assists Sales Managers and Brand Integrity Manager in the planning and execution of all corporate sales programs, product promotions and other events where merchandise is involved. Becomes an active partner to the Brand Integrity Manager during floor sets and floor changes. Communicates any outstanding problem resolution issues with the Experience Manager. Understands and articulates all MCX value stories, programs and promotions. Strongly promotes the cultivation of MCX corporate culture, mission and core values at the store level and engages with all management and associates through conversations, modeling behaviors, supporting store team-centric initiatives and driving team member satisfaction.
Executes corporate backroom brand standards program to include physically inspecting merchandise, maintaining a high efficiency of the receiving, marking and checking process, movement of merchandise from the storage area to the sales floor (replenishment), and the accurate flow of merchandise through all backroom functions. Works with Sales Managers and Assistant Store Manager to determine available shelf space and amounts and location of merchandise to be displayed. Assures items are effectively merchandised in accordance with the Brand Integrity team, accurately price marked and set according to merchandising standards. Assures rotation of stock to prevent spoilage and outdating of stock; marks down price of merchandise to move damaged or perishable stock. Arranges for return to vendor of items which are damaged, shipped in error or unsellable.
Controls merchandise from receipt until placement to the sales floor. Accountable for the disposition of all receipts; identifies deficiencies in controls and initiates corrective action to preclude recurrence. Interprets basic warehousing policies and corporate standards programs as they apply. Works with distribution center to ensure required merchandise is brought to the main store at established times to prepare for stocking. Reviews incoming merchandise in the warehouse and informs store leadership regarding new receipts in an effort to expedite merchandise to the selling floor and maximize sales and profitability through faster turnover. Identifies and reduces all risks of loss and/or theft.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Delivers a Dress Blue Experience to all customers throughout the store. Proactively identifies opportunities to resolve customer problems and concerns. Follows up with customers to ensure their problems are resolved. Assists customers and
communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, scheduling, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; completing performance reviews and signing timecards; training employees. Must be alert to alcohol abuse, and take appropriate action. Assists in developing and ensuring the implementation and control of an adequate, effective and appropriate training plan for all personnel.
Actively engages in organizational training opportunities that develop personal and professional skills related to: time management, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, career planning, public speaking and small group leadership. Promotes training and development throughout the store and supports the implementation and integration of the MCX corporate training and career development program. Participates in all corporate-led training programs and works with Store Leader to set training goals and manage training compliance and learning transfer. Promotes employee training and skills development learning plans. Plays an integral role in store leadership development initiatives. Connects required training to performance and skills gaps. Strongly promotes the cultivation of MCX corporate culture, mission and core values at the store level and engages with all management and team members through conversations, modeling behaviors, supporting store team-centric initiatives and driving team member satisfaction.
Has key holder responsibility: opening and closing stores and receiving products. May require food handling safety training, handling and certification. May require training and handling of Western Union and other customer services offered. May require light custodial duties, light lifting of merchandise, stocking, setting planograms, price changes, inventory counts and corrections.
Performs other duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.
BACHELOR’S DEGREE from an accredited college or university in a related field appropriate to work of the position, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR THREE YEARS of practical experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. Experience working in a backroom/warehouse environment. One year of supervisory experience working in a role with a high volume of merchandise flow and replenishment processes is preferred. Ability to train operating standards and procedures logistics, replenishment and warehousing as well as work within the position to execute these standards properly and coach others within the team to do so with a high degree of skill and confidence. Ability to work in a high-performance atmosphere with commitment to service goals. Ability to multi-task with high quality follow-up and holding teams accountable to results. Strong working knowledge of business processes, controls and system development. Attention to detail is required. Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred, yellow belt or higher.
