Serves as the Junior Software Developer for the Research Development Integration (RDI) team within the Information Technology Directorate, Business and Support Services Division (MR), Headquarters Marine Corps. The incumbent assists with designing, coding, and testing business applications. Assists with developing ETL (Extract, Transfer, Load) software to interface data between systems. Assists with job scripting, job scheduling, code debugging and code tuning tasks for business applications.
Assists developing internal software that is line with MCCS security requirements. Assists with maintaining and debugging existing source code and application software. Assists with unit test and system test preparation and execution. Assists with writing and editing technical specifications, and, when necessary, gathers application technical requirements.
Assists with preparation of technical design documents for new applications or features. Works with the Business Analyst and the Application System Analyst to identify needed application and process modifications.
Performs routine and recurring assignments. Identifies and resolves issues and problems. Prepares and updates technical instructions. Evaluates established methods and procedures and prepares recommendations for improvement.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly.
Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.
EVALUATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field appropriate to the work of the position OR four years of progressively technical hands-on experience, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above is preferred.
General to working knowledge and experience programming applications and writing scripts/job control statements. General to working knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL concepts and relational database concepts. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Knowledge of the following technologies would be considered a plus: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Shell Scripting. Experience with Application Server and other middleware are desired.
Ability to become knowledgeable of MCCS policies regarding proper Software Development Lifecycle procedures, approvals, and documents. Must be able to work independently and manage multiple task assignments. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.
