The Secret Service is seeking retirees of the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) or an ICTAP eligible to support our integrated mission and impart their knowledge and experience to the current workforce. The Officer's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Duties

Help

During the course of working in the Office of Protective Operations, Officer (Uniformed Division), carry out critical investigations and protection assignments. Duties include:

  • Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area, and other USSS protected locations.
  • Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, foreign heads of state/government missions, and other USSS protectees.
  • Conducting surveillance, counter surveillance, and providing vehicle security throughout the United States.
  • Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
As determined by the Office of Personnel Management, the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

Since the duties of this position are exacting and involve the responsibility for the safety of others under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or that would cause the individual to be a hazard to himself/herself or to others is disqualifying.

This Officer (Uniformed Division) position starts at a base salary of $56,095 (LE-01 step 1) to $76297 (LE-01 step 07). Highest Previous Rate (HPR) will not be offered beyond the LE-01 step 7 level.

  • Submit to a drug test and credit check prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Submit to a polygraph examination prior to your appointment.
  • Undergo occasional domestic and foreign travel.
  • Possess a valid U.S. state motor vehicle operator's license and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
  • Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
  • Successfully complete a Mixed Basic or Reintegration Training Course as applicable.
  • Work long and irregular hours including holidays, weekends and evenings, and shift work.

Qualifications

Dual Compensation Off-Set Waiver for Officer (Uniformed Division) Approved for Rehires: This announcement is being used to recruit CSRS and FERS annuitants on a limited basis with a waiver of salary offset (if a dual compensation waiver is requested) under certain specified circumstances not to exceed 12/31/2028.

Annuitants who are reemployed with a salary offset waiver (dual compensation) are eligible for:

  • Full annuity and full Federal salary.
  • Annual and sick leave (not applicable for an intermittent work schedule)
  • Full-time, part-time, or intermittent work schedules.
  • Receive overtime
  • Annuitants under this authority will be offered a non-status, term appointment in the competitive service Not-to-Exceed 4 years or 1 day before their 60th birthdate, whichever comes first.
  • Appointments that continue past December 31, 2028, may be subjected to salary off-set (reduced) if the OPM dual compensation salary off-set waiver is not renewed.
Annuitants who are reemployed with a salary offset waiver (dual compensation) are NOT eligible for:
  • Additional retirement coverage (other than Social Security coverage).
  • TSP Contributions.

Reemployed annuitants may only receive one appointment per job series.


To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements:

You qualify for the LE-01 grade level (salary $$56,095.00) if you demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience performing duties such as:

  • covering designated security post to limit access to protected areas;
  • standing fixed posts or patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle; and
  • preparing reports of unusual incidents occurring on post.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: a Current Drivers License

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, USC, Section 922(g)(91)). Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, USC, Section 1001).
