Duties

Works in the General Ledger (GL) Section of the Shared Services Center's General Accounting Branch, overseeing comprehensive accounting responsibilities within the Air Force Services Financial Management System (AFSFMS). Applies double-entry accrual accounting principles to ensure accuracy and compliance in financial operations. Manages journal entry imports, verifies daily postings, and ensures timely closure of accounting periods across Air Force, MAJCOM, and base Non-appropriated Fund Instrumentalities (NAFIs).

Leads a team of junior accounting technicians handling prepaid and fixed asset functions, maintaining over 2,500 subsidiaries and reconciling more than $500 million in assets. Trains new employees on AFSFMS and guides junior technicians in accounting procedures. Reports on junior accounting technicians' performance and training needs to the section chief.

Manages high-volume general ledger adjustments, payable transactions, lodging assessments, payroll cash transfers, and other financial processes, ensuring compliance and accuracy. Responds to installation inquiries and audits, coordinates corrective actions, analyzes account discrepancies, and maintains updated financial metrics. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have progressive experience with the interrelationship of accounts and the effects of debit and credit transactions on the overall system of general ledgers, and an understanding of the relationship between the general ledgers and subsidiary accounts. Must have comprehensive experience with financial regulations, guidelines, and procedures to effectively interpret and apply them across diverse accounting scenarios, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial operations. Must have experience with word processing, spreadsheets and briefing materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Proficiency in typing and data entry keypad skills.
2. Experience with NAF accounting practices and procedures.
3. Experience and understanding of training methods and preparation of training materials.
4. The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
