Incumbent serves as the Program Manager and Senior Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) for law enforcement, emergency services, and Special Park Uses at Bryce Canyon National Park, a 35,835-acre unit under the management of the National Park Service (NPS). The park receives an annual visitation of nearly 3 million visitors with a potential daily visitation of 15,000 during the peak season. Park resources include fauna and flora of Colorado Plateau ecosystems, incomparable scenery composed of highly colored picturesque pinnacles, walls, and spires; over 200 identified archeological sites, significant historic buildings and landscapes, paleontological resources, and over 20,000 acres of recommended wilderness. Facilities include over 90 structures, 51 of which are historic; 78 miles of trail; 33 miles of road; and 14 major parking areas and viewpoints. There are 32 housing units in two locations, and a large concession operation with lodging, restaurants, two stores, and multiple employee dormitories. A small trail ride concession is also operated seasonally.
Primary job duties include:
Law Enforcement Commission: This position requires applicants to possess, previously held (within the past three years), or be able to possess by entrance on duty date, a valid Type II (seasonal) or higher level National Park Service (NPS) Law Enforcement Commission (or equivalent), which requires completing training from an accredited institution, which currently consists of over 650 class hours and lasts on average 17 weeks. Please visit the Association of National Park Rangers' Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program (SLETP) for additional information on approved training courses and equivalency for commissioning.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
