The Neuropsychologist will be a member of the Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Health Care System (CVAHCS), in the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL), providing comprehensive, neuropsychological services to veterans presenting in any clinical setting within the medical center. This Neuropsychologist provides the full range of neuropsychological services including assessment, consultation, feedback and psychotherapy, and cognitive rehabilitation. The incumbent will serve as the local expert on neuropsychological issues and will be involved in the education of staff and trainees related to this area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
The Neuropsychologist functions as a local specialist provider, supporting the range of clinical teams across the facility, providing neuropsychological assessment, consultation, therapy and education, and cognitive rehabilitation. This individual will also support geriatrics, extended care and Specialty MH settings. Specific duties include:
1. Providing neuropsychological screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of neuropsychological disorders, as well as other mental health and primary behavioral health conditions, with an emphasis on helping patients and other providers to incorporate neuropsychological functioning in the overall treatment plan.
2. Providing neuropsychological prevention services to patients at significant risk for neuropsychological problems.
3. Providing services to the families of Veterans with dementia and other neuropsychological conditions being served by inpatient units, Primary Care or MHSL outpatient clinics, when such care is directly related to the overall treatment plan for the veteran and will allow better care for the veteran and allow the family to sustain the veteran in the home or care environment. For example, family members may be trained to better manage behavioral problems associated with dementia; such training may allow the patient care team to reduce use of psychoactive medication as a means of controlling behavioral problems.
4. Providing clinical services through the use of Tele-Mental Health/Tele-home technology.
5. Providing screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral for a complete neuropsychological evaluation or dementia assessment is needed.
6. Performing capacity/competency assessments when there are questions about a patient's ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions, or live independently.
7. Assessing patients' understanding of advanced directives and other forms of consent and assisting staff in determining how to present treatment options and other such material to patients in a format they can understand.
8. Providing individual and group interventions to support patients that are coping with cognitive impairment.
9. Providing psychoeducational and supportive interventions, in conjunction with the Veteran, for spouses, family members/caregivers, and others that are crucial to optimal care of the Veteran.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
