The Long Beach VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one Medical Administration Specialist, located in the Office of the Chief, Health Administration Service (HAS), whose responsibility is to represent both the Medical Center Director and the Chief of HAS on all administrative matters occurring when assigned to other than a normal tour of duty and represents management in matters (non-policy making) administrative matters.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinating the resolution of medical legal problems concerning the medical center, ensuring that appropriate legal, regulatory, and policy requirements are met and processes administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, assaults, deaths on arrival (DOA's), homicides, code blue, cost recovery matters, and facility or community disasters, etc.
Providing administrative authority, guidance, and advice to Medical Officer of the Day (MOD), Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) and all other clinical staff concerning administrative matters necessary for operation of the medical center during other than normal tours. Performing for administrative matters as the MOD does for clinical matters, working as a team to carry out top management responsibilities during other than regular working hours.
Directly intervening when problem regarding patient activity occurs, advising clinical staff of appropriate administrative action. Observing, evaluating, and coordinating administrative activities with IRMS, Engineering, Laboratory, Radiology, Nursing, and Environmental Management personnel, among others.
Coordinating tests and procedures which cannot be done at medical center. Locating available source and authorizes VA payment of services at community hospitals or resolves in accordance with established sharing arrangements. Coordinating patient referrals and transfers to and from the medical center including the necessary transportation arrangements. Collaborating with community providers in updating status of Veterans awaiting transfer to VA for continuity purposes. Responding to requests under Beneficiary Travel authorities and makes appropriate arrangements. Facilitating urgent transportation for Veterans as needed, to include flights for VA organ transplant candidates being sent out of state.
Conducting analytical studies on operational processes, issue topics, or related special projects as assigned. These may include access, consultations, travel, enrollment management, Medical Center Memoranda or Policies or other topics related to the flow of patient care related to Health Administration processes.
Work Schedule: Work Schedule: Irregular work schedule; this position is to include nights, weekend, and rotation Holidays. Day/evening shift 8-12 hours. Weekends required; some holidays may be required.
