Current U.S. Customs and Border Protection employees who are currently working in a permanent competitive service position.
As a Physical Scientist you will perform a full range of difficult physical, chemical, and forensic analyses on evidentiary items seized and/or submitted to the regional and/or field laboratory. You will be a delegated authority to serve as an expert in forensic examinations and are given a wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgement.
This position starts at a salary of $105,383.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $137,000.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection.

Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Requires some lifting of boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
